We tackle pollution at its source by advancing sustainable waste management and recycling across Malaysia’s communities and landscapes.
From Waste to Wealth: Empowering Communities Through Circular Innovation
Sustainability creates its greatest impact when communities are empowered to become part of the solution. PETRONAS Menyemai Masa Hadapan programme transformed environmental challenges into opportunities by equipping communities with the knowledge, skills and confidence to embrace more sustainable lifestyles while unlocking new pathways for economic empowerment.
Designed to promote circular economy practices, the initiative enabled participants to transform plastic waste, used cooking oil and discarded textiles into valuable products, creating opportunities for learning, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
Delivered through a strategic collaboration with PETRONAS and Impactlution, the programme integrated clean-up initiatives, sustainability education, upskilling workshops, entrepreneurship training and environmental awareness programmes to inspire positive behavioural change across Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak. By bringing together communities, strategic partners and local organisations, it demonstrated how collaboration can drive meaningful environmental action while advancing the principles of the circular economy.
More than 3.1 tonnes of recyclable materials were recovered, generating over RM20,000 in recorded revenue through recycled products, while local entrepreneurs expanded market opportunities through exhibitions, community events and commercial collaborations.
Beyond these achievements, the programme nurtured a new generation of changemakers who see waste as a resource, sustainability as an opportunity and collective action as the foundation for lasting change. Today, its impact lives on through stronger communities, greener practices and a growing movement towards a cleaner, more resilient and sustainable Malaysia.
